Financial Aid Information

2024–25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) will be available by Dec. 31, 2023.
 
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as the FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid (including the Pell Grant, Federal student loans and Federal Work-Study).
 
A student who can meet all of the following criteria may be eligible for aid:
  • Has registered with the Selective Service System (for Conscription in the United States) between the ages of 18 and 25, if required to do so
  • Maintains a GPA minimum set by the school you are attending
  • Is a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or an eligible non-citizen
  • Has a valid Social Security number
  • Has a high school diploma or GED
  • Completes a FAFSA promising to use any federal aid for education purposes
  • Does not owe refunds on any federal student grants
  • Is not in default on any student loans
  • Has not been found guilty of the sale or possession of illegal drugs while federal aid was being received

The California Dream Act
 
Allows undocumented students, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients (valid or expired), U Visa holders and students under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), who qualify for a non-resident exemption under Assembly Bill 540 (AB 540), Senate Bill 2000 (SB 2000) and Senate Bill 68 (SB 68), to receive certain types of financial aid such as: private scholarships funded through public universities, state administered financial aid, university grants, community college fee waivers, and Cal Grants. In addition, the California Dream Act, allows eligible students to pay in-state tuition at any public college in California
 
What is the difference between the FAFSA and the California Dream Act application? Students should only complete one of the applications (not both), according to the citizenship requirements below:
1. You are eligible to complete the FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-foraid/fafsa if you are a:
  • U.S Citizen
  • Permanent Resident
  • Eligible non-citizen
  • T Visa holder
2. You are eligible to complete the CADAA at https://dream.csac.ca.gov if you are:
  • Undocumented
  • Have a valid or expired DACA
  • U Visa holders
  • Have Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
  • Meet the non-resident exemption requirements under AB 540, SB 2000, SB 68

La Ley del Sueño de California

Permite a estudiantes indocumentados, beneficiarios de Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia (DACA) (válidos o vencidos), titulares de Visa U y estudiantes bajo Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS), que califican para una exención de no residente bajo el Proyecto de Ley 540 (AB 540) de la Asamblea, del Senado. Proyecto de ley 2000 (SB 2000) y Proyecto de Ley Senatorial 68 (SB 68), para recibir ciertos tipos de ayuda financiera tales como: becas privadas financiadas a través de universidades públicas, ayuda financiera administrada por el estado, becas universitarias, exenciones de tarifas de colegios comunitarios y Cal Grants. Además, la California Dream Act permite a los estudiantes elegibles pagar la matrícula estatal en cualquier universidad pública de California.
