GEAR UP Parent Workshop

Dear Burton Tech Parents,

This is a friendly invitation to join us for a GPA Workshop for all 10th grade families. The workshop will take place on Saturday March 14 from 9-11am. It is important that all students and families attend this meeting! 

We will provide: Child Care, Professional CLEF Staff, Information that pertains to the student's current situation.

• Students will be provided with an evaluated transcript that will let them know whether they are on track of being eligible and competitive for the UC or CSU system. We will also discuss the MAP letter that each student will receive.
• The entire family will receive information that pertains to the students current situation. The goal will be to encourage students to have a better understanding of how their actions and efforts can really pay off in 10th grade.
• The main goal of the Parent GPA Awareness Workshops is to provide the personal attention that many of the students and families need to better understand the educational system in California and the types of financial aid that students will have access to after they graduate from high school.
• Professional CLEF staff will present to students and parents on the UC and CSU admissions requirements (GPA, A-G, College Entrance Exams, and importance of Extracurricular Activities), financial aid (Scholarships, Grants, Work-Study, and Loans), and AB-540 updates.

We will also be hosting a BBQ for all families, right after the workshop.

Please join us on Saturday March 14 from 9-11am. Feel free to bring younger siblings, If you are planning on bringing younger siblings please inform the school, either by replying to this post or by calling the school at 323-920-6125. We want to make sure we provide enough supervision for all.

Estimados padres de Burton Tech:

Esta es una invitación amistosa para unirse a nosotros en un Taller de GPA para todas las familias de 10º grado. El taller tendrá lugar el sábado 14 de marzo de 9 a 11 de la mañana .   ¡Es importante que todos los estudiantes y sus familias asistan a esta reunión!  

Proporcionaremos: Cuidado de niños, personal profesional de CLEF, información relacionada con la situación actual del estudiante.

• Los estudiantes recibirán una transcripción evaluada que les permitirá saber si están en camino de ser elegibles y competitivos para el sistema UC o CSU. También discutiremos la carta MAP que recibirá cada estudiante.
• Toda la familia recibirá información relacionada con la situación actual de los estudiantes. El objetivo será alentar a los estudiantes a tener una mejor comprensión de cómo sus acciones y esfuerzos realmente pueden dar sus frutos en el décimo grado.
• El objetivo principal de los Talleres de concientización de GPA para padres es proporcionar la atención personal que muchos de los estudiantes y sus familias necesitan para comprender mejor el sistema educativo en California y los tipos de ayuda financiera a los que tendrán acceso los estudiantes después de graduarse de la escuela secundaria.
• El personal profesional de CLEF presentará a los estudiantes y padres los requisitos de admisión de UC y CSU (GPA, AG, Exámenes de ingreso a la universidad y la importancia de las actividades extracurriculares), ayuda financiera (becas, subvenciones, trabajo-estudio y préstamos) y AB- 540 actualizaciones.

También organizaremos una barbacoa para todas las familias, justo después del taller.
